Our Revolution — Local Organizing

First things first — please read over our Code of Conduct before we turn you loose in this new research project.

Code of Conduct

The Our Revolution team is made up of volunteers and staff of numerous and diverse backgrounds, united by their commitment to a set of values - namely social, economic, environmental and racial justice - which were at the core of the 2016 Presidential Campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders. By his example, Senator Sanders has shown us that it is possible to work with people whose ideologies and personalities may be diametrically opposed to our own, when the results could provide real, positive change, and the alternative is gridlock and dysfunction. We know from experience that we can be a positive force in driving the political direction of our society. Infighting, disunity, and feuding only lead to deterioration of the political power we have worked tirelessly to amass. We will practice radical inclusivity and forgiveness, for the well-being of the movement is as stake.

To that end, we agree to make every effort to work together under the following terms:

  • We will work together toward a common goal.
  • We accept differences of personality and opinion.
  • We agree to treat one another with respect.
  • When making observations about others, we will remain objective.
  • When debating, we will not let our differences of opinion over policy or strategy descend into personal attacks.
  • We do not condone bullying or harassment, and will actively take steps to mitigate either should they occur.
  • We will not discriminate against anyone on the basis of their race, religion, age, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, place of origin, level of abilities or socioeconomic status.
  • We will work together to find equitable solutions to any issues which may arise.
  • We trust one another to abide by these guidelines and act in the group's best interest.
  • We are aware of our own limitations, and if we have been given a task which we are unable to complete, we will seek out assistance.
  • We value and encourage feedback, and will not retaliate against those who give it.
  • In our interactions with one another, and with the wider public, we will act in a way that adheres to the moral and philosophical values of Our Revolution.

If a volunteer is unable to agree to and abide by any of the above terms, progressive discipline will be applied. In other words, the behavior will first be addressed in private, either over the phone or in private message. If the behavior persists, that volunteer will be asked to leave the Our Revolution volunteer team. We do not wish to disallow people from participating in our vital work, however, we must place our common welfare first.
